Jayne Schmitt

Currently serving as the vice president and CFO of the Customer Solutions Operating Group for BAE Systems, Inc., a $31 billion international firm, Jayne Schmitt is no stranger to dedication and hard work.

Beginning as a systems programmer for Unisys, Jayne Schmitt has since gained over 30 years of experience in the defense contracting industry. 

In the time between 1977 and 1990, Schmitt held various positions of increasing responsibility at Unisys.  She was eventually promoted to Business Segment Finance Manager where she directed budgeting, planning, analysis, and reporting of contract financial information and provided a full range of financial analytical support to the company.

From 1990 to 1998, Jayne Schmitt worked at FMC Corporation where she went from Director of Contracts and Estimating to the position of Controller for FMC’s United Defense L.P. Armaments Systems Division.  In this new position, she was responsible for all accounting, estimating, contracts and financial systems for the $600 million division.  In 1996 she was yet again promoted to Group Controller of FMC’s Agricultural Products Group.  In this position she was responsible for the worldwide financial operation of this $2 billion global performance chemical business.

In 1998, Schmitt returned to the United Defense Armaments Systems Division as CFO after FMC sold the company.  She held that position until 2001, when she then became the Vice President of Investor Relations for United Defense Industries, Inc. (UDI), where she worked until joining BAE Systems in late July 2005. 
 
As a leader who has managed staffs of up to 400 people in various roles in her career, Schmitt believes strongly in managing by expectation and giving employees “license to do their job.”  Schmitt encourages an open and relaxed environment and most enjoys a creative and lively staff.  Her management style encourages teamwork, learning, and fun.

Schmitt holds a BA in Business Management from the College of St. Catherine in St. Paul, MN, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Minnesota.
